About Friendship Family Home

Founded in 1988 and nestled in the heart of McBain, Michigan, Friendship Family Home provides a nurturing and supportive environment for adult women with developmental disabilities. As a licensed Adult Foster Care home, we adhere to the stringent standards set by the Department of Consumer and Industry Services, ensuring a safe, healthy, and loving environment for our residents.

Our home was built with the heartfelt contributions of time, labor, and funds from the extended community across Wexford, Missaukee, and Osceola counties. Thanks to these generous contributions and the continued support of our community, we have been mortgage-free and well-maintained, allowing us to focus fully on the care and development of our residents.

Alice loves to work on puzzles in her free time. She is the self-proclaimed “Puzzle Queen.” She also works on sewing with plastic canvas. She makes placemats and will ask you for your favorite color to make you one, “free of charge.” She goes to Hope Network 2 days a week, and Footprints in Time 3 days a week. She loves to talk about old TV shows and is very knowledgeable about the actors and actresses who play in those shows. If you tell her your birthday or anniversary, she’ll never forget it and the next time you see her, she will remind you of it. She has lived at FFH for 8 years this time around, with having lived here prior. When asked what she liked about living at FFH, she said, “Because we do fun things together!”

Melissa loves to help around the house, cleaning, helping with taking out the trash, getting the mail, anything that keeps her active is her favorite. She loves going places, laughing with people and getting friendly banter going. She always asks staff, “What’s your plans?” when she wants to go do something in the community. She goes to Hope Network 3 days a week, and Footprints in Time 2 days a week. She likes to work on puzzles, do crafts, and loves The Cosby Show. She is our girly-girl, loving anything pink and sparkly. She loves playing dress up, wearing pretty dresses and having her nails done. She is one of the original members of the home and has been here since July 1990. When asked what she likes about living at FFH she said, “This is my home!”

Bobbi is the jokester of the house. She loves to tease and always has a joke on the ready. Her laughter is contagious, and she makes life fun at FFH. She is also our animal lover, with a love for all things animal, but especially cats. She helps take care of our 2 guinea pigs, Pete and Repeat. She never lets staff forget that they’re hungry. She likes to play card games and even has her very own made-up card game that is very complex and knows if someone moves any of her cards. She is extremely athletic and a great bowler. She goes to Hope Network 2 days a week, and to Footprints in Time 3 days a week. She is one of the original members of the home and has lived at FFH since August 1990. When asked what she liked about living at FFH, she said, “I like having my guinea pigs.”

Gail is always so happy and cheerful. She brightens up any room she’s in and always has a big smile on her face. She loves doing crafts, especially making cloth wreaths out of strips of material and sewing plastic canvas. She is quite good, easily completing a wreath or 2 a day, depending on the level of home time available. She is always up for any activity and loves to be around people. She is excited to do any activity and especially loves going to dances. She is always doing a little dance around the house. We never know what she’s going to say next, and the old adage, “out of the mouths of babes”, rings true for Gail! She attends Hope Network 2 days a week, and Footprints in Time 3 days a week. She has lived at FH since November of 1997. When asked what she likes most about FFH, she said, “I like all the staff.”

Susie is magical when it comes to helping in the kitchen. If she isn’t playing with her blocks in her chair in the living room, she’s in the kitchen. She’s great at cutting up vegetables and washing dishes. She likes to decide what we are making for dinner when it’s her day to choose. She loves anything at all to do with kitchen duties and this is where she shines most. When she meets new people, they always comment on how precious she is. She loves to dance and listen to music, and her favorite place to sit and listen to her music is on our back porch, where she will sing along with her headset, her beautiful notes ringing in the air. She attends Hope Network 3 days a week and Footprints in Time 2 days a week. She has lived at FFH since April of 2017. When asked what she likes most about living at FFH, she said, “I like it here better.”

Amber is our youngest and newest resident. She has been with us since August of 2024. She is a bundle of energy and so sweet. She loves to go out and do things in the community, be social, and play jokes on the staff. For activities, she enjoys working on diamond art, coloring, swimming, talking on the phone and music. As of right now, with plans to add other day programs, she is going to Footprints in Time 5 days a week. She loves the color purple and has requested to have her room painted with peace signs and purple. She’s extremely smart and sensitive. We think she will be a good addition to the home and are looking forward to getting to know her better. When asked what she likes about living at Friendship Family Home, she said, “I like all the staff. They’re so nice!”
